I had only been among the throngs at Glastonbury for 24 hours and already I’d caught a virus, apparently picked up by walking through “the alleys” – the dark back streets of late-night city hotspot “Shangri La”. Signs posted around Shangri La – a futuristic and dystopian wonderland of art, music and performance – warned that the infected must be cleansed or, more ominously, “recycled”. To make matters worse, my friend Emily appeared to be infected too.
