Green Man: Free Bass
Excuse me, Sir. Would you like some free bass?
Have you ever held a balloon inside a nightclub or rave, and discovered that it resonates delightfully with the music? The sac of air acts like a natural amplifier for sound waves, and low wave frequencies in particular. Most pleasing.
If you hold the balloon close to the floor the bass resonance becomes even more intense. I’ve been doing this for years.

At Green Man, I very much enjoyed giving away our bass.
Quite clearly, people enjoyed it too – even more than I had expected. And they learned new tricks that even I, a seasoned bass lover, hadn’t discovered – such as holding two together.
One of the most curious things about the bass balloons is that people either instantly understand the point, love them and hold them dear – or they simply don’t understand at all what they are meant to do. Interesting – the reaction is almost entirely all or none. Binary, you could say.
Fortunately, those who like them sure do seem to like them.
